Precedia
Answer Engine Optimization for law firms

When someone asks AI for a lawyer in your city, be the firm it names.

Precedia is the AEO platform that makes your firm the authority ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews name — not a page of links. We find out whether the answer names yours, and fix it when it doesn’t.

No login. Takes ~30 seconds. Your firm name, practice area, city.

01The shift

Search is becoming an answer. The list of links you optimized for a decade is being replaced by a paragraph that names a few firms.

When a prospective client opens ChatGPT or Perplexity and asks for a lawyer, they don't get ten options to weigh. They get a short answer with a handful of names and a few cited sources. If your firm isn't in that handful, your ranking doesn't matter — it's never shown.

High-value

One client can be a six-figure matter

A single personal-injury, M&A, or estate engagement dwarfs the cost of being invisible. The downside of not being named isn't a lost click — it's a lost retainer.

Trust-led

A cited recommendation reads as vetted

When an engine says “a well-reviewed firm is Maddox & Reed,” the client treats it as a screened referral — not an ad. That trust transfers to whoever gets named.

Invisible

You can't see the loss in your analytics

There's no impression, no click, no entry in Search Console. The query happened inside a chat you'll never see. The only way to know is to ask the engines yourself.

02Live AEO audit · free

Ask the answer engines what they say about your firm.

Enter three things. We run the eight questions a prospective client would actually ask, read each synthesized answer, and show you exactly where you're named — and where a competitor is named instead.

audit input

Example uses simulated answer-engine data. Live queries run server-side; no keys touch the browser.

scorecard · awaiting input

Your visibility score, a query-by-query breakdown, the competitors named instead, and the exact citation gaps — rendered here.

  • · 8 prospective-client questions
  • · named / not-named, with answer position
  • · competitor share of voice
  • · concrete sources you’re missing
03Method

A measurable loop, not a black box.

Every step produces something you can check: a query set, a parsed answer, a gap list, a schema diff. The score is defensible because the inputs are visible.

  1. 01

    Cluster the questions

We map the way prospective clients actually phrase their need — not one keyword, but the cluster of prompts that signal intent to hire: best, top-rated, who should I hire, cost, near me, situational. That cluster is what we measure you against.

~8–20 prompts per practice area, weighted by commercial intent
  2. 02

Read the answers, name the competitors

We run those prompts through the answer engines with web search on — the way a client's session works — and parse each synthesized answer: were you named, at what position, and which firms were named instead. We track competitor share over time.

    named / not-named · position · cited-vs-mentioned
  3. 03

    Repair the citation gaps

Answers are built from sources. We find the directories, profiles, and roundups the engines cite for your competitors and don't have for you — Google Business Profile, Avvo, Justia, Super Lawyers, local lists — and get you correctly listed, claimed, and consistent.

profiles · directories · NAP consistency · review depth
  4. 04

Make your site machine-readable, then re-measure

We add the structured data engines rely on — LegalService, attorney, location, and review schema — and shape practice-area pages to answer the questions directly. Then we re-run the audit so you can see the answer set change.

04Why law firms

Few industries have more to lose in this shift than legal.

AEO matters everywhere, but the economics of legal services make it acute: large matters, trust-based hiring, local intent, and a decade of SEO investment that doesn't transfer.

High-stakes

The matters are too large to be invisible for

Legal buyers don't comparison-shop a $40 product. A serious injury, a business dispute, an estate — these are decisions made once, under pressure, with a lot at stake. The cost of not being in the answer is one of those engagements, not a lost click.

Trust-driven

An engine's recommendation reads like a referral

People hire lawyers on trust, and a synthesized answer that names your firm — with citations — carries the weight of a vetted referral, not an ad. Whoever the engine names inherits that trust by default. Right now, that's often not you.

Local

Intent is geographic, and so is the answer

Almost every hire is local: a client wants a lawyer in their city who handles their problem. That makes the answer set small and winnable — three or four firms — but it also means a competitor two miles away can quietly own every answer in your market.

Exposed

Strong Google rankings don't carry over

Firms that invested years in SEO are the most exposed: the rankings that win the link list don't decide the written answer. Being page-one on Google and absent from the AI answer is the most common — and most dangerous — position a firm can be in.

05Proof · honest version

We did it for ourselves first.

We're early, and we'd rather show you the truth than a wall of borrowed logos. The first firm we made answer-engine-visible was our own — because a company that sells AEO and can't rank itself has no product.

We pointed this exact audit at ourselves for the query “best AEO service for law firms” and ran the same playbook we’d run for a firm: cluster the questions, fix the citation gaps, add structured data, and re-measure every week.

It’s a niche query, and it’s our own — which is precisely why we show it as method rather than a guarantee. What it demonstrates is that the loop is real and repeatable, and that you can watch the answer set move.

what we won’t do

  • Invent case studies or testimonials we don’t have yet.
  • Promise a #1 answer; the engines decide, we move the inputs.
  • Hide the methodology — you can audit our score the same way we audit yours.

07FAQ

Questions skeptical partners ask.

Straight answers, written to be useful — and, fittingly, structured so the answer engines can cite them too.

What is Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)?

Answer Engine Optimization is the practice of getting a business named and cited inside AI-generated answers — from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews — instead of merely ranked in a list of links. For a law firm, it means being the firm an engine recommends when a prospective client asks it for a lawyer.

How is AEO different from SEO?

SEO optimizes for a ranked page of links a person clicks; AEO optimizes for the single synthesized answer an engine writes, which usually names three or four firms and cites a handful of sources. The difference matters because you can rank first on Google and still be absent from the AI answer entirely.

Do answer engines actually name specific law firms?

Yes. For local, high-intent queries such as “best personal injury lawyer in Austin,” ChatGPT with search, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews routinely name specific firms and cite sources like Google Business Profile, Avvo, Justia, and Super Lawyers. Our audit shows you which firms are named for your queries.

How do you measure visibility, and can I trust the score?

The visibility score weights each query by its commercial intent, your position in the answer, and whether you were cited or merely mentioned. Because every query and result is shown to you, the score is auditable rather than a black box — you can verify it the same way we calculate it.

How long until we see results?

Citation gaps — claiming profiles, fixing directory listings, adding structured data — often move within four to eight weeks. Winning competitive “best [practice] lawyer” answers usually takes a quarter or two, depending on how contested your market and practice area are.

Is AEO compliant with bar advertising rules?

AEO relies on the same legitimate signals as good marketing: accurate profiles, genuine client reviews, correct structured data, and helpful content. It does not fabricate reviews or deceive engines, and the work stays within bar advertising rules by avoiding false or misleading claims.

What do I need to run the audit?

Three things: your firm name, a practice area, and your city. That is enough to run the free audit and produce your scorecard. Any fix work afterward is scoped to exactly what the scorecard reveals.
